The Search for The Hero Dress

So, remember in SATC: The Movie they considered Carrie's Vivienne Westwood wedding gown "The Hero Dress"? Well, I'm in search of mine.

As I mentioned earlier I'm getting married and sure the wedding isn't for another 355 days but can you really be too prepared for a wedding? I'm trying to get any and every decision that I can make out of the way as soon as possible to have less of a headache when the big day does arrive.

No matter how perfect the day is, if I don't have a dress that takes everyone's breath away then I might as well get married at the court house.

Yes, that's how I really feel.

Here are a few choices that I've come up with...

PLEASE...I beg for you insight, input and any opinions to help me narrow the choice down!

The search begins...

Hello Lover: Jeffrey Campbell's "Marly" and Nine West's "Yung"

Here are some fantabulous shoes I thought I'd share with you world. But don't thank me, thank Jeffrey Campbell. His "Marly" platforms can be yours for $125 from Urban Outfitters.

They're very similar to Nine West's "Yung" platform. Now these 4 inch beauties of patent leather perfection aren't available until Nov. 15 but for $119 I will make sure they're a part of the fall/winter collection in my closet. It may not seem like a fall shoe because it's open toe but with the right ensemble (like a layered, lace, tutu skirt with a fitted turtleneck under a shrunken leather jacket) this shoe is perfect for the fall!

I love fall...but more so I love shoes.

The Hostess with the Mostest

So, I’m not sure if I mentioned it but I’m selling Mary Kay and I love it! Any excuse to play in make up, learn about skin care and enjoy the company of other fabulous women while making money is fine by me.

Anyways, yesterday I had my Mary Kay debut at my house and there were 6 of us and as you see here I had food enough for forty.

What can I say? I tend to overcompensate.

Above were just the pinwheel wraps…not to mention the shrimp cocktail, chocolate chip cookies and fruit bowl. This just goes to show that when I have a party: you eat good.

Dear World...

...I'm engaged.
(Since last Sunday - I know I'm late.)

Isn't it a beauty? More details in a little bit.

And I need help planning the most fantastic wedding EVER!

Hello Lover: Zarajoe by Nine West

These puppies rule my life right now. (They can rule yours too for $199 from Nine West.)

I will stop at nothing to make sure these are in my closet part of my fall inventory.

Self Potrait: A Natural Woman

So as I get older I keep convincing myself that I need to wear lipstick...assert myself and wear more skirts and just fully grab being a woman by the balls. (How about that for an oxy moron?!)

I didn't have instant overnight success but I did try a lipstick (which I rarely do except for special occasions) and I loved it! A rouge mouth is a happy mouth. I don't know why I don't do this more often. I love make up and I love my lips but I think I was always afraid for the two to come together in full blown technicolor. But if you pick the right color to go with your complexion (and contrast beautifully with your ensemble - there's nothing worse than matchy-matchy make up) you can work wonders!

Don't worry I didn't wear that goofy look on my face the entire time but the lip color (Red Fig by Mary Kay) went perfect with my marigold pokadotted top with beige dress pants and pearls.

I really felt like...a natural woman.

Cheesy? Yes...but you get my drift.

NYFW Review: People, Parties and Clothes!

So as you know last week was New York Fashion Week and I gave a little sneak peek of the Rock and Republic show. I have more pictures and info so throughout this week I will have flicks of runway shows from Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Kimora Lee Simmons and much more! So stay tuned...

In the meantime, stay in the know with my other blog, The Minority Report.

Look of the Day: Jada Pinkett Smith

Stunning.

Accessories!

[A necklace I purchased from XXI.]

(This post is a few days late.)

So as I was watching 'The Rachel Zoe Project' this week (last week) on Bravo, I discovered that besides a really good dress or shoes...accessories truly add to your fabulosity. That being said I recognized the lack of necklaces and rings (I don't own one) I had and finally did something about today. The new forever 21 at perimeter had its grand opening today and I got in my happy place (I haven't shopped for a month!) and got some (...many accessories). What I like about Forever 21's accessories is that they're inexpensive without looking cheap...(that's the worst.) However, besides the progress that I've made I have got to invest in some key (...real) pieces of jewelry. It's hard because as much as I like stuff I've just never been into jewelry. I'm probably one of the few women who don't like Tiffany's...unless it's diamonds of course.

(And trust me, I'm working on it.)

FAVE: Free People Lambswool Fringe Jacket

I think I might have found the perfect jacket for fall. Because I'm little, I usually like my jackets (trenches or coats) to be more fitted so it doesn't look like it's overbearing and swallowing my body. Good ole Urban Outfitters has come through again with this one. Free People's Lambswool Fringe Jacket is everything that I want and need.

At $168, it can be yours too! Seriously, though...how cute is this?

Look of the Day: Tyra Banks

Check out model turned mogul Tyra Banks at Cosmopolitan's Fun Fearless Phenom Awards in NYC today. She looked great. I haven't been a fan of her fashion choices lately but she redeemed herself with this look here.

My apologies...

I'm sorry folks. Between work, my other blog, starting my Mary Kay business, sleeping and eating I've become a horrible blogger within the past week. (Since I haven't post anything...) I will do whatever I humanly can to make sure I at least put up one post a day. Of course, I will try to do more. Like now.

It's 1:27 am.

The life of blogger. Gotta love it.

NYFW: Rock and Republic

Chanel Iman walking in the Spring 2009 Rock & Republic show

So as you know, (as well you should if you're a bona fide fashionista like myself) New York Fashion Week is going on. It started September 5 and will end on the 12th. I myself could not be in the city to take in all the events and parties like I wish I could but I will do my best to keep you covered on the who, what and where of NYFW.

(I'm going to try my best to make it out there in February for Olympus Fashion week.)

Check out some looks from R&R's Spring 2009 collection:

Lauren Conrad is Worth $1.5 Million

According to sources, and having a discussion with it the girls it's been brought to my attention that Lauren Conrad - star of MTV's mega hit "reality" series, 'The Hills' - makes approximately $75,000 an episode. That's $1.5 million a season!

Now, I knew she was rich but I didn't know she had it like that. On top of her MTV salary, she gets paid for appearances at clubs (like $100,000 an appearance) and she's a spokesperson for the cosmetics line Mark. If all you've got to do is give MTV your John Hancock to get rich and become a bonafide star just tell me where to sign...just kidding.

My feelings On The VMAs...

Absolutely. Un. Acceptable.

Shopping Diets and Self Potraits...

Me at White House Black Market trying on this super sick dress. How cute did it look on me?

Anyways, since I'm starting my own business and trying to be an adult and all I've put myself on a shopping diet. I know it sucks...but people we're in a recession. I'm trying to be financially smart and I know that I didn't really need that dress. Sigh.

And so, instead purchasing an unneeded dress I decided to put the funds towards my business.

It's hard.

This was later on that evening...I decided to throw some make up on to make myself feel from buyer's remorse and pick up some wings for dinner. Here I am (pre-wings) by the Boyfriend's art work in our apartment. Pearls just do it for me. Very. Lady. Like.

And this was post wings. Cosmetics courtesy of Mary Kay...and whatever else was in my make up bag.

VMAs Tomorrow!

I’m totally excited to see this year’s VMAs! I watch it every year; it’s damn near religiously. This year though is kind of a big deal for various reasons.

It’s the show’s 25th anniversary and there are many performances.

Most of them had been announced early this week and a few more were announced at a press conference yesterday in Hollywood. Christina Aguilera, T.I., Rihanna and Lil Wayne are amongst the many performing during the fete but I’m anxious to see the opening (Britney Spears) and the closing (Kanye West) of the show especially. After the tragic that was Britney’s opening at last year’s awards I’m surprised that both MTV and Britney would want to go through that again. And Mr. West swore up and down that he wouldn’t return after they shunned him from opening last year’s show and long and behold he will be not only there but closing the show out.

I’m sure everyone who is everyone in the music game will be there as well as a slew of presenters like Ciara, Jamie Foxx and many others were also confirmed this week. If I’m not mistaken the show has never been in Hollywood – there’s New York City which is considered home for both MTV and the VMAs; then there was that stint in Miami in 2005 and of course last year’s shenanigans in the city of sin – Las Vegas. As an avid VMA watcher, the shows were always below standard if they weren’t in NYC because they usually were trying too hard. Last year, I felt that the show was all over the place…a bit scatterbrained. It was too much going on. I get it. There were lots of performances and they were trying to capture the essence of Vegas for the viewer but the execution lacked its primary goal to make the show look good.

So I hope and pray that this year’s try in Hollywood is a little different from the show’s history whenever they go abroad.

Hmmm...Ciara on Vibe Magazine

Not sure how I feel about this one. Here Ciara is naked on the October issue of Vibe magazine. I guess someone spit the "sex sells" game to her. I've got to say I'm a bit shocked and a little disappointed. How far do you have to go to become a star?

Beyonce's Top 10: The Birthday Edition

So, earlier this week was Mrs. Carter’s birthday and since she’s one of my favorites (and yours, too) I decided to put together her top 10 looks – in my opinion. Seldom, does she look bad so it was pretty easy to come up with this list. I could have done like 30 looks but I spared you. Beyonce who recently told Marie Claire UK, “I’m over being a pop star…I want to be iconic” is currently working on her upcoming solo effort allegedly entitled, ‘Virtuoso Intellect’ which is supposed to drop November 18. Rumors say she’s working with the likes of Kanye West, The Dream and The Neptunes for the album. Can’[t wait to hear her new stuff. The leaked single, “Beautiful Nightmare” is expected to be on the album. She’s also got 2 movies, “Obsessed” (in theatres next year) and the long awaited “Cadillac Records” (out late this year) where she portrays music legend Etta James. As far as I’m concerned, if she wants to be considered an icon…she’s well on her way.

I love this look on B. Pink is my favorite color so maybe that's why I'm a little bias.

This is one her more reserved looks but that's what I like about it. We're so used to Beyonce: The Superstar but this was more like Beyonce: Jay-z's wife.

Here at last year's Grammy Awards B looked very ice princess-esque. She got some slack for this ensemble but I thought she look fabulous per usual.

Typical Beyonce...awesomeness.

This is one of the first times we saw her with dark hair which I love...

Loving the green...

At last year's Fashion Rocks...I absolutely love this dress! Probably my favorite look on her...

This wasn't so much because of her outfit, but more of the actual look. The makeup, the pearls, the hair...perfection.

I don't know what it is - the dress or Beyonce herself - but I just really appreciated the look. That dress is gorgeous! (It must be the dress.)

Accepting an award at last year's VMA's looking like a Greek goddess. Love her in gold.
