Last night was the Diamond Empowerment Fund’s Empowerment dinner for Africa in NYC. DEF which was started by hip hop mogul Russell Simmons last year is an international non-profit organization dedicated to “funding education programs in African countries where diamonds are a natural resource.” Stars like Cassie, Kim Kardashian, Rev Run and Justine Simmons all came out to support the cause.
The Simmons Jewelry Co. which is responsible for the jewelry lines like Hello Kitty by Kimora Lee Simmons and Brown Sugar by Justine Simmons raised over $300,000 through the sales of the Green bracelet which is made out of diamond and malachite and the official symbol of DEF. The bracelet is available at stores like Macy’s, Kay, Zales, Gordon’s Jewelers and a few other retailers.
